I do not have kids. A lot of my friends do, and every year around now they all start talking about back to school. School supplies, first day outfits, which teacher their kid got.
I have two pets, and I think about them the way my friends think about their kids. So I started wondering the obvious thing: what would it look like if my kids went to school?
The yearbook portrait was first, and it is honestly because of my dog Pinkie. She is unreasonably good on camera. She holds a pose. She waits for you to finish. She has always looked like she is about to be handed a certificate. Once I had that in my head I could not stop, and the other two followed quickly. I wore glasses all through school, so I wanted to know what Pinkie would look like in a pair, which became the Student Watercolor. The High School Photo
This is the class portrait your pet never got to sit for. Argyle vest, studio lighting, the slightly stiff posture of someone who has been told to hold still. It reads as a joke from across the room and as a genuinely nice portrait up close, which is why it is the one design in the collection that also comes as framed wall art.
It is the pick for a kid heading to a new school, for a graduate, and for anyone who wants something that will still be funny in ten years.
The Student Watercolor
Round glasses, soft stripes, washed brush edges. This is the one people buy when they want the pet to be recognizable but the object to still look good sitting on a desk in a shared office.

When should you order for the first day of school?
Orders take 2 to 4 business days to make and 2 to 6 business days to arrive, so plan on 4 to 10 business days total. That means about two calendar weeks of buffer to be safe.
Most US school districts start between the second week of August and the day after Labor Day. Backing up from that:
- Mid August start: order by the first week of August.
- Late August start: order by mid August.
- After Labor Day start: order by the last week of August.
National Retail Federation tracking found 62% of back to school shoppers had already started buying by early July 2026, so the practical risk is not that you are early. It is that you decide in the last week and then need it in four days.
Frequently asked questions
Can I put more than one pet on the same item?
Not on these eight, which are built for one pet per item. For two, three or four pets in a single piece, start at custom pet portraits and pick how many pets you have. The flow takes it from there. For the Back to School designs specifically, most households with two pets order two notebooks, which also permanently settles whose notebook is whose.
Does it work for cats, rabbits, and other animals?
Yes. Cats work especially well in the High School Photo and Student Watercolor designs, because the deadpan expression does a lot of the comedy on its own. Any pet with a clear, front facing photo will work.
What if the art does not look like my pet?
